(Updated) Winthrop Police Lt. Charged With Child Rape Placed On Administrative Leave: DA

The assaults happened over the past year, according to the assistant DA. 

Feeley was arrested by state police on Tuesday night, Dec. 26.

He is held on $200,000 bail. Feeley will return to court Jan. 29, 2024, for a probable cause hearing.

Original: A police lieutenant in Winthrop has been placed on administrative leave after being arrested and charged with child rape, authorities said.

Winthrop Police Lieutenant James Feeley is charged with rape of a child and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Feeley has been with the department for 21 years, according to his LinkedIn page.

Winthrop Police Chief Terence M. Delehanty said in a statement Wednesday morning, Dec. 27:

“James Feeley has been placed on administrative leave from the Winthrop Police Department pending the outcome of a criminal investigation headed by State Police Detectives assigned to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.”

Feeley is set to appear in East Boston District Court on Wednesday.

No further details have been released about the case.
